Exxon gets U.S. approval to run further tests on Pegasus pipeline

Federal regulators gave ExxonMobil more time to perform new tests on its ruptured Pegasus oil pipeline, part of which spilled oil into the town of Mayflower, Ark., in March. "On review of the draft report, EMPCo (Exxon Mobil Pipeline Company) believes additional mechanical and metallurgical testing is warranted to better understand the pipe properties and potential failure mechanisms," the company said in a letter to the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration. Exxon has until July 10 to conduct testing as long as it supplies "information regarding the additional testing and protocols," PHMSA said.
