Lack of dental care perpetuates joblessness for some

Many unemployed, uninsured Americans with obvious dental problems find that lack of care makes finding a job even more difficult. "Customer service jobs, good entry-level jobs, they’re not available to people who lack the basic ability to smile, to function, to chew properly," said California Dental Association President Lindsey Robinson. Participants with severe dental problems in a 2006 study who completed their dental treatment were twice as likely as those who did not complete treatment to gain employment or move off welfare.
