Oil, gas drilling bills clear House committee

Several bills that seek to open more sites to energy exploration cleared the House Natural Resources Committee. The measures would force the federal government to include the coasts of Virginia, South Carolina and California in a new offshore leasing program and also limit environmental studies of new lease sales. "These bills will unlock our American energy resources on federal lands and waters," said Rep. Doc Hastings, R-Wash., chairman of the committee.
