Scientists call for looser restrictions on psychoactive drugs

Stringent rules on the use of illegal drugs in research hamper medical progress and are based more on politics than science, three scientists assert in Nature Reviews Neuroscience. Laws restricting the use of cannabis, certain mushrooms and other psychoactive substances have not been updated in decades despite evidence that they may not be as harmful as once thought and may prove to be therapeutic in some cases, they wrote.
