Standard regimen works as well as newer drug for arthritis

An older, less expensive regimen that combines methotrexate, sulfasalazine and hydroxychloroquine is as effective as the costlier combination of methotrexate and etanercept in treating rheumatoid arthritis patients who don't respond to methotrexate alone, a study found. U.S. researchers followed 353 patients and found no difference in improvements between the two groups. The study appeared online in the New England Journal of Medicine.
