Steroid injections for spinal pain can raise fracture risk, data show

Steroid injections can increase the risk of vertebrae fracture in older patients, Henry Ford Health System researchers reported in The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery. The analysis included data from more than 3,000 patients older than 50 who had translaminar lumbar epidural steroid injections. Researchers said the treatment should be used with caution in patients with conditions that may contribute to bone frailty.
