Study: 18F NaF PET/CT can aid in atherosclerotic plaque identification

A German study involving patients who underwent whole-body 18F NaF PET/CT for the exclusion of bone metastases found that 88% of the lesions with 18F NaF uptake exhibited arterial wall calcification. "Unlike 18F-FDG or choline derivatives, 18F-sodium fluoride may provide new insights into the functional properties of calcified lesions," the study's lead author said.
