P&W is optimistic about maintenance plan for geared turbofan engine

Pratt & Whitney is developing a maintenance support strategy for its geared turbofan engine, and the company is confident that the plan will satisfy its airline customers. Todd Kallman, P&W commercial engines and global services president, said, "We can do some repairs on wing overnight that traditionally have been done in an engine shop, such as compressor airfoil blending." Kallman also said that the engine was designed with fewer parts to lower the cost of maintenance.
