Study backs use of HbA1c in diagnosis, management of diabetes

The hemoglobin A1c test can be used to help diagnose and manage diabetes, according to the evidence-based guidelines approved by the American Diabetes Association published in the journal Diabetes Care. The HbA1c test helps measure venous plasma glucose and monitors glycemic index, while alternative tests including urine-albumine and genetic testing show minimal clinical significance, experts said.
