Study urges spending on shale-gas research, touts emissions benefits

Shale natural gas can help the U.S. transition to the use of low-carbon energy sources, according to a study conducted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology encouraging more research worldwide. More engineering know-how and technology will need to be brought to the Northeast U.S. to best exploit such resources safely, said MIT professor Robert Armstrong, a member of AIChE's Board of Directors.
