Column: Refiners should pay attention to jet biofuel

Columnist John Licata writes that refiners should pay attention to renewable jet fuel as airlines seek to make flights more efficient. "So if advances in technological innovation are making biofuels more affordable and more readily available to the private sector, that could disrupt the refining sector as we know it," he writes. He further noted a longer-term shift afoot to make advanced biofuels more relevant as a fuel source for transportation, citing the historic announcement by United Airlines last week that the carrier would purchase 15 million gallons of advanced biofuels from AltAir Fuels for commercial use over a three-year period.
