Heathrow Airport's evolution since opening in 1946

Heathrow Airport has come a long way since its opening as a commercial airport in 1946. The airport handled 620 passengers per week when it opened, but is now the busiest two-runway airport in the world. The airport also provided canvas tents to shelter travelers in the 1940s, a far cry from its state-of-the-art Terminal 5 that opened in 2008.
