Researchers tracked nearly 150,000 women with low-risk pregnancies in the Netherlands and found that those who planned a home birth were less likely to experience severe acute complications than those who chose to give birth at hospitals. The differences, however, were statistically significant only for second or subsequent births. The study appeared online in BMJ.
