Prosecutors to head group pushing for anti-theft phone measures

With data showing that about 30% of robberies in the U.S. involve a cellphone, prosecutors in New York and San Francisco are expected today to disclose plans to form a nationwide coalition of police, government and consumer groups aimed at stemming the thefts. The Save Our Smartphone movement will press smartphone-makers and their shareholders to invest in technology that would discourage resales of stolen smartphones, including the installation of a "kill switch" on the devices. The two district attorneys are planning on meeting today with officials from four major phone-makers to discuss the matter.
