Supreme Court limits patents on genes

In a unanimous ruling Thursday, the Supreme Court said that human genes cannot be patented. The decision left open the possibility that Myriad Genetics could patent DNA, although not genes that it simply isolates and extracts from the body. The case involved patents on mutations linked to increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer.
