AAFP offers guidance to Congress on plans to repeal SGR

The AFFP is offering guidance to lawmakers as Congress considers several plans to repeal and replace the sustainable growth rate formula by the end of the year, an idea that may have gained steam after the Congressional Budget Office said the cost to repeal dropped $107 billion from an earlier estimate. AAFP Board Chair Glen Stream, M.D., told the House Energy and Commerce Committee that primary care physicians need a new category of evaluation and management codes to capture the intensity and complexity of office visits.
