Calif. pediatric hospital confirms data breach

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif., announced a data breach affecting almost 13,000 patients after a non-functional laptop that might have contained health data was stolen from the facility between May 2 and May 8. The laptop was password-protected but not encrypted, and it could have contained data such as patient names and scheduled surgical procedures.
