Microsoft adds authentication protection to its cloud services

Windows Azure now has an Active Authentication feature, adding directory-integrated two-factor authentication to the cloud service for users of Office 365 and other hosted applications, according to Microsoft. "Developers can also use the Active Authentication SDK to build multi-factor authentication into their custom applications and directories," Microsoft's Sarah Fender wrote in a blog post. The feature involves a smartphone application that will trigger an automatic phone call or text message once a user logs into Azure.
