N.C. to require cursive-writing instruction

North Carolina joined a majority of states in adopting the Common Core State Standards, but Gov. Pat McCrory signed legislation Wednesday that deviates from the tenets of the new standards. Under the bill, students in the state once again will be required to learn cursive handwriting -- a provision not included in the common core, which focuses more on keyboarding proficiency.
