OTC derivatives regulation presents hurdles in Asia

Asian banks are increasingly concerned about Dodd-Frank Act reporting requirements for over-the-counter derivatives, which might conflict with their domestic privacy laws. OTC traders registered as swaps dealers, including banks, have a Commodity Futures Trading Commission exemption through month's end from disclosure of counterparties with which they trade. ISDA says banks active in Asian OTC markets are "extremely concerned" about the post-exemption environment.
