Study examines varying gestational diabetes guidelines

A retrospective study in Diabetes Care found 76% of women had at least one risk marker for gestational diabetes and would have underwent testing based on the American Diabetes Association guidelines, while only 54% and 58% would have qualified for screenings based on the U.K. National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence and Irish guidelines, respectively. Researchers also found the percentage of patients without risk factors who would have been undiagnosed were 20% for U.K. and 16% for Irish guidelines, compared with only 5% for ADA guidelines.
