Leaders, hoteliers expect new Phoenix hotel to benefit tourism

Phoenix is considering a new 1,000-room hotel to accompany an expansion of the city's convention center, and area hoteliers say they think the plan would be a benefit for everyone. The new hotel, which would be the largest in Arizona and might operate under the Hilton or Sheraton brand names, is "necessary for the Phoenix Civic Plaza expansion... You've got to have rooms downtown, or meeting planners will go someplace else," said the manager of the Chaparral Suites Hotel in nearby Scottsdale.
