Mixed news: Construction is down, manufacturing is on the upswing

Confidence waned for U.S. builders in June, and it could mean that demand for housing is slowing after the government tax credit worth as much $8,000 expired in April. The industry will be dependent on employment to emerge from its doldrums, writes Courtney Schlisserman. However, manufacturing in the New York region expanded in June and the industry continues to lead the way for economic recovery, according to a report by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
