Washington veterinarians confirm case of equine herpes virus

A horse admitted to Washington State University's College of Veterinary Medicine teaching hospital for an intestinal illness was diagnosed with equine herpes virus, the ninth case to be confirmed in the state since an outbreak began last month. At least 12 horses in Western states have died since the first animals were exposed to the virus at a Utah horse competition.
