BPA exposure in utero may be tied to cryptorchidism

Baby boys with cryptorchidism, or undescended testicles, who had high concentrations of bisphenol A in their umbilical cord blood also had substantially lower levels of the hormone insulin-like 3 than those without the birth defect, a French study showed. Researchers found no direct association between BPA exposure and cryptorchidism, but they noted that BPA levels had an inverse correlation with the testicular hormone. The findings were presented at the Endocrine Society meeting.
