DreamWorks shuns cable, chooses Netflix for new original shows

DreamWorks Animation has signed a multiyear agreement with Netflix under which it will provide 300 hours of original programming to air on the streaming service. The new shows -- which will begin running next year and will be based largely on existing DreamWorks characters -- are part of an effort by the studio to expand its television presence and represents a growing trend to move away from traditional channels such as cable.
