Advances in technology, including 3D printing and innovations in treating dread disease, could make immortality more probable, according to Ray Kurzweil, director of engineering for Google. By treating biology as software and reprogramming some cells, humanity will be on the verge of achieving immortality in the next 10 to 20 years, he argues. "These technologies will be a thousand times more powerful than they were a decade ago," he says. "These will be a thousand times more powerful by the end of the decade. And a million times more powerful in 20 years."
