Private equity has congressional allies in tax fight

Private-equity firms face an uphill lobbying battle as Congress considers taking away one of their biggest tax breaks, but companies like Blackstone do have some allies on Capitol Hill. Democrats may be unwilling to attack a growing source of campaign support, while Republicans will hesitate to take action that could be perceived as a tax increase. A bill introduced last week that would take away the break and double taxes on some deals stunned the private-equity industry.
