Acrylic roof systems put a dent in energy costs

Since 2001, GreatWay Roofing in Moorpark, Calif., has installed white roofing systems that reflect the sun's rays. Demand for the reinforced acrylic, which is sprayed on a roof like paint, has increased as consumers recognize the environmental benefits and cost savings associated with cool roofs, company officials said. White roofs, which range from $1.80 to $3.25 per square foot, can result in energy savings of up to 15%, according to the Cool Roof Rating Council.
