Experts call for stringent FDA approval process for devices

The FDA can better ensure the safety of patients by strengthening its approval process for medical devices, experts said at a congressional hearing. Stephen Ubl, president and CEO of the Advanced Medical Technology Association, said in defense of the agency that the "FDA has comprehensive authority to regulate medical devices through a combination of premarket and postmarket controls."
