FDA sends final rule on unique device identifier for OMB review

The FDA has submitted for review to the Office of Management and Budget a final rule to set up a unique device identifier system for medical technologies. The UDI system is intended to improve medical device monitoring as well as allow the FDA to more quickly determine device safety and effectiveness issues and target product recalls better.
