MedPAC reports include discussion of hospice care, admission

The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission released reports calling for equalized practitioner payments across practice settings and a change in how readmission penalties are calculated for hospitals that treat large numbers of poor patients. A chapter devoted to hospice looks at the appropriateness of hospice admissions, noting that 18% of patients were alive at discharge, and the overlap of care when hospice services are provided to Medicare beneficiaries in nursing homes.
