No more extensions for ICD-10 switch, ONC chief confirms

National HIT Coordinator Dr. Farzad Mostashari has confirmed there won't be any more delays with the transition to ICD-10 and that the compliance deadline would remain Oct. 1 of next year. The one-year extension from the original Oct. 1, 2013, deadline was meant to allow for a transition between ICD-10 and the Systematized Nomenclature Of Medicine Clinical Terms, also called SNOMED, which is more physician-friendly, Mostashari said at the HIMSS Media ICD-10 Forum.
