U.S. mayors ask for food-stamp ban on sugar-sweetened drinks

Mayors in 18 U.S. cities, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, sent a letter to congressional officials asking that food-stamp rules prohibit the purchase of soda and other sugar-sweetened drinks. The letter said that to help fight obesity, it is time to evaluate ways to curb the use of subsidies for sugar-sweetened beverages.
