Advanced bomb-disposal robot employs prosthetic arms

The Modular Prosthetic Limb, or MPL, created by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's Revolutionizing Prosthetics program has found a second use with DARPA's Bimanual Dexterous Robotics Platform. A four-wheeled robot developed at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory is equipped with a pair of MPLs initially designed for amputees. In tests, the robot has demonstrated an unprecedented level of control in such tasks as inspecting packages and potentially defusing bombs.
