Budget plan would increase refinery inspectors in Calif.

A budget proposal by California state Sen. Loni Hancock would significantly increase the number of refinery safety inspectors in the state. There are currently seven inspectors in California, and the plan would raise that number to 26. The Western States Petroleum Association is prepared to cooperate with the proposal "to ensure that there continues to be a robust and well-trained" refinery safety program, a spokesman for the group said.
