CDC: Vaccination helps ease health care burden of flu cases

A CDC study in the journal PLOS One showed that influenza vaccination prevented 13 million illnesses and more than 110,000 flu-related hospitalizations between 2005 and 2011. Flu shots had the biggest impact during the 2010-2011 season, preventing 5 million cases, 2.1 million visits to doctors and 40,400 hospitalizations, researchers said.
