Dairy market stabilization will hurt consumers

The dairy policy proposed by Rep. Collin Peterson of Minnesota includes a new insurance program for dairy farmers that is largely flawed, the Wall Street Journal writes. Because there is no cap on the program, Peterson created another program which would put milk supply and prices in the hands of the government. "The goal is to keep dairy prices artificially high, which means higher costs for consumers and federal nutrition programs. Americans will subsidize dairy farmers as taxpayers and again as consumers," writes the Wall Street Journal.
