Maine House approves midlevel provider bill

The Maine House approved a bill expanding the scope of practice for specially trained and licensed dental hygienists. Licensing would require graduation from a dental hygiene therapy program and completion of 1,000 hours of clinical training overseen by a dentist. The measure would allow dental hygiene therapists to fill cavities, extract teeth and establish a practice under the supervision of a licensed dentist.
