Norfolk Southern recently conducted a two-part Operation Lifesaver event in Mishawaka, Ind. The first part involved the distribution of educational materials to inform the public about staying safe near railroad tracks, while the second part dealt with tightening law enforcement against rail trespassing. "Anybody that works or grows up around railroads should be aware of the dangers posed by large, moving equipment," said Gary Hedgepath, NS manager of facility security and crime analysis. "Sometimes they have a tendency to forget that."
