Video could encourage more patients to get dental care

A computer-assisted relaxation learning tool can help patients overcome their fear of dental injections and thus encourage patients to get needed care, according to research reported in a Journal of Dental Research supplement. A series of videos two to four minutes long introduces physical and cognitive coping techniques. Twelve of 34 study participants who watched the videos subsequently agreed to get injections, compared with six of the 34 participants given pamphlets to read.
