Chicago, other major cities drop prices to attract 4th of July tourists

Chicago, Portland, Boston, Seattle and Los Angeles topped Hotwire.com's list of Fourth of July deal destinations because of their significant price markdowns. Chicago's average hotel price on Hotwire is $111, an 11% price drop year-over-year, while Portland's average hotel price decreased 10% to $105 on the website. "Many of these cities are business hubs as well, and since there will likely be reduced travel for the work week, hotels are dropping prices in order to attract leisure travelers," said Hotwire Group Vice President Pierre-Etienne Chartier.
