Expert urges health groups to start ICD-10 preparations now

Dr. Farzad Mostashari, the ONC's national coordinator for health IT, says health groups should start preparing for the ICD-10 switch now to ensure compliance with the new codes by Oct. 1, 2014, and Jill Wolf of VitalWare agrees. Speaking at a recent forum, Wolf said organizations should not just offer coders proper training, but they should also urge them to try coding claims with the ICD-10 codes now. "They need to practice it and review charts and apply it," she said.
