Farm bill is voted down by House

The House has voted against a five-year, $500 billion farm bill, with Republicans demanding deeper cuts in the food stamp program, Democrats fighting that request and both sides decrying the other as partisan. "Twice, the Senate has overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan farm bill that reforms farm programs, ends direct payments, cuts spending and creates American agriculture jobs," said Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee. "The House needs to find a way to get a five-year farm bill done."
