Microsoft held close discussions in recent weeks with Nokia about buying the Finnish cellphone maker, but the talks faltered over the price and Microsoft's concerns over its partner's faltering market share, according to The Wall Street Journal, which offered few details about terms that might have been discussed. Nokia has adopted Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system but has failed to make a major dent in the U.S. market. Microsoft, like other software and hardware companies, has been seeking ways to increase its presence in the mobile-device market.
