ONC official shares views on harnessing health IT to engage patients

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT in recent years has shifted its focus from helping hospitals and doctors demonstrate meaningful use of EHRs to leveraging health IT to get patients more involved in their own care, said Lygeia Ricciardi, the ONC's Office of Consumer e-Health director. In this interview, Ricciardi discusses some of the agency's efforts to promote consumer engagement, including giving patients greater access to their data under stage 2 of the MU program.
