Stone Age humans may have brought snails to Ireland

The banded wood snail may have been brought to western Ireland by Stone Age humans, according to a study published in PLoS ONE. Researchers found a genetic link between a white-lipped variant of the Irish snails and snails found in the central and eastern Pyrenees. Researchers suggest the snails came along as food or with animals brought by travelers making their way to Ireland from the Mediterranean region.
