Univ. of Pittsburgh Big Data initiative takes off

A project at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to gather, integrate and analyze proteomic, genomic, clinical and financial data has yielded insights into breast cancer. Researchers found molecular differences in tumors that develop before and after menopause. The initiative is a collaboration with Oracle, IBM, Informatica and dbMotion to integrate various fields of research and allow researchers to investigate new questions, says Dr. Adrian Lee, director of the Women's Cancer Research Center at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.
