Why retail matters in the world of small business

Collectively the retail industry is the country's biggest employer in the private sector, but 77% of retailers are small businesses with fewer than 10 workers. Additionally, 95% of retailers operate out of a single store, and retailers with less than $5 million in annual sales employ more than 3 million Americans, according to data compiled by NRF.
