Health care organizations await future of Medicare sequester

Most health care advocacy organizations have taken no steps to assess the effect of recent Medicare budget reductions while they wait to see whether further congressional action will be forthcoming this fall. "Overall, there's not been a huge uproar around the Medicare sequester and certainly not the uproar that was predicted before it went into effect," said Alex Brill, a policy consultant at Hooper, Lundy & Bookman. Health care spending has slowed and Medicare cuts were less than those sustained by other government programs, leading some observers to suggest the issue isn't a high priority for lawmakers.
